When Man City defeats Newcastle United to advance to the semi-finals, they create FA Cup history.

The previous FA Cup record was broken on Saturday when Manchester City defeated Newcastle United.

City easily defeated Newcastle 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium to guarantee their place in the FA Cup semifinals.

Pep Guardiola’s team took an early lead when Bernardo Silva’s shot venomously deflected off Dan Burn’s boot and went over Martin Dubravka’s head.

Silva scored via a deflection once more fifteen minutes later, but this time Sven Botman of Newcastle was the unfortunate defender. Twice was lightning struck.

With the win, City’s chances of retaining the triple crown they won the season before and becoming the first team to win trebles in consecutive seasons were preserved.

With their victory on Saturday, City made even more history. The previous season, they both set and broke a number of records.

City will qualify for the FA Cup semifinals for the sixth straight year—a record never before reached.

When Guardiola’s storied squad unexpectedly lost to Wigan Athletic in the fifth round of the 2017–18 season, City last missed the semifinals of the competition.

Considering that City hasn’t played well in those semifinals, it’s an impressive feat.

City has lost three of its previous five FA Cup semifinal appearances, including back-to-back losses in 2020, 2021, and 2022.

The previous season, they ended their last-four curse by defeating Sheffield United 3-0 and their bitter rivals Manchester United 2-1 in the semifinals.

Coventry City was added to the semi-final draw hat-pool after their thrilling 3-2 triumph over Wolves.

In the final six minutes of regulation time, Coventry conceded twice after taking the lead at Molineux.

In the final four, the winners of Chelsea vs. Leicester and Man United vs. Liverpool will join City and Coventry.
