Pep Guardiola affirmed that a Manchester City standout, possessing greater creativity than Bukayo Saka, is set to join Arsenal in January.
Arsenal is eyeing a significant move in the January transfer window to acquire Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips, who has expressed discontent with his treatment by Pep Guardiola.
Guardiola has hinted at a talented City player, superior to Bukayo Saka, potentially joining Arsenal in January.
Reports suggest that Arsenal is planning a January raid on Manchester City to secure the services of the dissatisfied midfielder, Kalvin Phillips,
who has made his desire to leave the club known. Phillips was disappointed with his lack of playing time under Guardiola, recognizing a pivotal period in his career at Etihad.
In the summer of 2022, the 27-year-old England star made a transition from his childhood club Leeds to Etihad for £42 million.
Phillips faced limited playing time during City’s triumphant Treble season, playing only 291 minutes in the Premier League and 39 minutes in the Champions League. He had a mere four starts since joining, the same number of starts he made for England during the same timeframe.
Phillips contemplated leaving the club in the summer due to insufficient playing time, which could have affected his chances of representing England.
Clubs like Liverpool, Newcastle, and Bayern Munich expressed interest in signing him, and it was suggested he might have been granted the opportunity to leave.
Despite the summer arrivals of Mateo Kovacic and Matheus Nunes, Phillips opted to stay. Guardiola emphasized that the decision was Phillips’s to make and acknowledged his commitment to the club. However, Phillips has only played 52 minutes for City this season.
Sources from Spain indicate that Arsenal is seriously considering making an offer for Phillips in January, deeming it an opportune time for the player to move on.
Arsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta, views Phillips as a suitable long-term replacement for Jorginho, who has faced recent criticism due to his struggles.
During the North London derby against Tottenham, where the game ended in a 2-2 draw,
Arsenal received criticism for surrendering possession too easily, prompting them to consider Phillips as a potential solution. Phillips, on the other hand, is eager to give City another chance and is actively seeking a regular run of games.
