Arteta on Martinelli and Elneny’s injury status

Mikel Arteta will be without Gabriel Martinelli for Wednesday night’s UEFA Champions League game against PSV Eindhoven.

Martinelli was taken off the field in the 24th minute of our 1-0 victory over Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday.

“He felt something in his hamstring and we need to do some further tests to assess if there is any big damage or not,” Mikel said. “But he will be out for tomorrow’s game, that’s for sure.”

The sole member of the team from our previous Champions League run in 2016–17, Mohamed Elneny, is still on the path to rehabilitation after suffering an injury in January.

The manager noted in his pre-game press conference: “He’s still young though! Although it has been a while and he had a serious injury, he is doing well and I believe he is nearing the end of the recovery process.

“He has been working out with the team for over two weeks, and he is doing well. He is always a pleasure to be with.
