Ion Țiriac has identified a new issue that Simona Halep is facing.
The businessman says that Simona will have difficulties in her race to return to the elite, as tournament organizers will no longer want to offer her wildcards.
“In the major tournaments, such as Wimbledon, Roland Garros, wildcards are given to young players from the organizing countries. On the other hand, if you give a wildcard to Halep at 30-something years old, and she has also been caught doping, what will the others say or those who did not receive a wildcard for this reason?”
“On the other hand, if you give her a wildcard, you don’t expect her to be competitive anymore. So if you give her a wildcard and she loses in the first round every time…,” said Țiriac on the “Prietenii lui Ovidiu” show at Gsp.ro.
Our athlete has only played two official matches since returning to tennis, but she does not give up.
Knee pains have bothered her lately, and Simona Halep is eager to try to play again in a new official competition, in Hong Kong, in October.
Simona played her first match after her return in March, in Miami, where she was eliminated in the first round by Paula Badosa.
Then she was forced to retire in the first round of the Clarince Trophee due to medical issues.
