After a “unusual” two-week break, Ange Postecoglou discussed his thoughts on Tottenham’s preparation for their upcoming North London Derby against Arsenal. Despite having enjoyed their time off, his players are itching to get back into the game following a crushing loss at Newcastle. He admitted, “You always want to play games, especially with football being so busy right now. However, we put in a lot of work during the break, and we’re eager to get back on the field.

Postecoglou thinks the Newcastle performance was disappointing, but it won’t affect the derby in the long run. We’re not going to focus on it. Although the players took a lot away from that game, history doesn’t matter in a derby. The task at hand is the main focus.

Postecoglou voiced his displeasure over Destiny Udogie’s injury. It’s regrettable for both Destiny and our group. Although he has played a significant role in our season, the surgery went well, and hopefully he will be ready for preseason. Positively, he stated that Richarlison and Pedro Porro had both trained all week and would be available for selection.

Postecoglou sees the derby and the games against Chelsea and Liverpool that follow as important litmus tests. “Every game provides a chance to assess our development. I know exactly where we stand and where we need to get better. We can evaluate ourselves against the teams we want to regularly challenge by playing these games.

The prospect of hosting the major match at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium excites Postecoglou as well. “You want to be playing for something meaningful at this point in the season. The games coming up are crucial, and I’m interested to see how we perform. It’s a chance for us to improve while playing against elite teams.

Postecoglou stressed his philosophy of approaching every game when he was asked if the North London Derby is the biggest game of his tenure thus far. “I take every game extremely seriously. I’ve worked to help the team adopt that perspective. Each game ought to feel like the most important one. Having said that, I am aware of the derby’s importance and the fans’ feelings toward it. There will be a great atmosphere and a tough, intense match.
