“I really wanted Mikel Arteta to sign him, but Arsenal was unable to do so.”- The Arsenal emblem Thierry Henry regrets not signing the £50 star who was allegedly open to Arsenal but is currently excelling for rival Premier League teams.

Thierry Henry wishes Arsenal had acquired the £50 million star who is currently making waves for rival Premier League teams.

In terms of transfers, Arsenal had a successful summer, adding a number of intriguing players who have significantly strengthened the team.

Despite their somewhat slow start, the Gunners’ performance during the transfer window was nothing short of extraordinary.

Late in July, Arsenal acquired Riccardo Calafiori, and at the end of August, they added Mikel Merino to their roster.

The Gunners then signed Neto on deadline day and, just before the window closed, brought Raheem Sterling to N5, also on loan.

Overall, Arsenal had a successful transfer window. There will always be disagreements, though, over which players a team ought to have traded for.

Now, for a different Premier League team, Thierry Henry has called a player the Gunners supposedly wanted in January the signing of the summer.

Thierry Henry wishes Amadou Onana had been signed by Arsenal.

The player in question is Amadou Onana, who reportedly received a £50 million transfer fee in exchange for moving from Everton to Aston Villa.

Onana was reportedly interested in joining Arsenal back in January, and the Gunners were open to the idea, but ultimately nothing materialized from the reports.

The Belgium international was then signed by Villa in June, and since then, he has adapted quickly to his new team.

Onana has registered two goals in his first three Premier League outings for Unai Emery’s side.

The Arsenal legend, speaking on talkSPORT (3/9/2024, 5:45pm), says Onana has been the signing of the summer, and he wishes Arsenal had made a move.

“Best one, it is a lot of money, but I really like what they have done there,” said Henry.

“They lost a really key player in Douglas Luiz and they brought in Onana. Oh! I wanted Arsenal to sign him.

“He is a powerhouse, by the way. Two goals in his first three games as well. I think he has been a great signing.”

Arsenal have solid midfield options for the present and future

Onana would’ve certainly been a solid signing for Arsenal, but the question is whether he would’ve taken well to a squad role.

Nevertheless, the Gunners have a solid midfield contingent as it stands. Arteta has Declan Rice, Thomas Partey, Jorginho, Merino, Martin Odegaard and Kai Havertz at his disposal.

In addition, Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly are waiting in the proverbial wings, and both look like they could become first-teamers for the Gunners.
