Ian Wright, a legend of Arsenal, chastises an Arsenal player for “jogging” following Declan Rice’s unjustified red card against Brighton on Saturday.
Ian Wright lashes out at an Arsenal player after Declan Rice is sent off for “jogging.”
Ian Wright wasn’t too happy with Arsenal’s performance against Brighton at home on Saturday.
Wright sees it as a point gained for Arsenal despite the fact that Mikel Arteta’s team was reduced to ten men.
Declan Rice was dismissed for kicking the ball away early in the second half, his second bookable offense.
The call infuriated the Arsenal supporters, as Arteta expressed his unwavering feelings regarding Rice’s red card and the lack of consistency in the situation.
You can understand Brighton’s frustration as Joao Pedro scored the equalizing goal and also gave the ball away in the first half, but nothing was given.
However, Wright was also irritated by the way some players behaved when a crucial player like Rice had to leave the field.
Since Brighton is an attacking team by nature and enjoys possession, they are eager to pressure the teams vying for the championship. They have started the new season with a 100% record.
However, that doesn’t mean you have to give up on performing the fundamentals, and the legendary Arsenal player singled out one man in particular.
Wright saw that Thomas Partey was “jogging” for Brighton’s goal, failing to see Pedro’s run, who would ultimately score from inside the box after a rebound.
Wright told Premier League Productions (31/08/24 at 2:40 pm) that the incident “could have been avoided” because they ought to have “put pressure” on Lewis Dunk as well, who passed the ball forward.
Thomas Partey was chastised following Arsenal’s draw with Brighton.
Wright stated, “You look at Thomas Partey when you look at that and the play from there.” “Joao Pedro has practically run ahead of him.
Thomas Partey must also acknowledge that he must accompany Pedro to the very end in that situation. When Pedro just runs past him and he’s kind of jogging back, at least pose a challenge.
“Those are the things that, upon reflection, you realize ‘that could have been avoided.'” Perhaps you ought to have exerted greater pressure on Lewis Dunk. He is capable. Increase the amount of pressure on that. After he gets that angle cut off, Partey probably needs to cover Pedro.
Arsenal vs. Tottenham
Next up is the North London derby at Tottenham’s stadium, which is a major match for both teams after the international break.
There will be more pressure on Tottenham going into that match after their Sunday loss to Newcastle.
Ange Postecoglou’s team should benefit from Rice’s suspension, though, as he will miss the Tottenham match.
There will be more drama in the upcoming North London derby, though Arsenal may give Raheem Sterling his professional debut against Spurs.
