“I wish you luck in handling…”- Shortly after Arsenal announced the midfielder’s transfer, former Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang texted Mikel Merino.

Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino, Arsenal’s third significant summer transfer window addition, has strengthened the team.

One of Merino’s former teammates, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, took to social media to congratulate and send well wishes as Merino gets ready to make his mark at the Emirates Stadium.

After weeks of rumors, Merino finally joins Arsenal. The Spaniard is excited to play with his old Real Sociedad teammate Martin Ødegaard in the 2019–20 campaign. This relationship should help Arsenal’s midfield as they look to succeed under Mikel Arteta in the forthcoming Premier League season.

Still, Merino’s return to the fold has been welcomed by more than just Ødegaard. Merino’s teammate Aubameyang at Borussia Dortmund also offered his support.

Aubameyang responded to Merino’s sentimental Instagram post, which featured a 2005 photo of him wearing an Arsenal shirt alongside a current image in the same pose, with a short but heartfelt message that read, “Congratulations brother and good luck.”

Even though it’s brief, this message emphasizes the two players’ respect and camaraderie. Aubameyang, who had a successful time playing for Arsenal, including winning the Premier League Golden Boot in 2018–19 and scoring vital goals in the team’s victories in the FA Cup and Community Shield, is well aware of the demands and expectations that come with donning the Arsenal uniform. In addition to being a friendly gesture, his support signifies that Merino has what it takes to succeed in North London.
