ANTHONY GORDON OF NEWCASTLE UNITED WINGER IS WANTED BY ARSENAL

Craig Hope of the Daily Mail reports that Arsenal has shown interest in signing one of Newcastle United’s top players.

During the current transfer window, the Gunners have only added Mikel Merino and Riccardo Calafiori to their outfield roster.

Before Friday’s deadline, the team is looking to add a new winger, and Raheem Sterling of Chelsea is reportedly a possibility.

According to Hope, Anthony Gordon is attracting interest from Arsenal, but it seems unlikely that the 23-year-old will depart before the deadline.

The star, who was born in Liverpool, is content with the Magpies, and following the transfer window’s closure, initial negotiations regarding a better deal are scheduled.

Despite this, Edu Gaspar, the sporting director of the Gunners, is still a huge fan of the Englishman. Next summer, Arsenal may make a move for him again.

Gordon is identified by Arsenal as a future forward target.

In January of last year, Gordon left Everton to join the Magpies. In 16 appearances during the second half of the 2022–2023 season, he scored just one goal.

With 12 goals and 11 assists in 48 games last season, he was a revelation. Out of 35 games, 21 of those goal contributions occurred in the Premier League.

Although Gordon has established himself as Newcastle’s first-choice left winger, he has also demonstrated his ability to play from the right wing in the past.

The Gunners’ late interest in him may have been motivated by his versatility, but the Magpies are unlikely to let him go when they have so little time to find a worthy replacement.

Similar to Nico Williams, Gordon is estimated by Transfermarkt to be worth £51 million, so Arsenal is unlikely to get a deal for him. In the future, he might be a forward target.

The Gunners may make a serious attempt to sign him during the summer transfer window of the following year if he can perform well for the Magpies for a second consecutive season.
