Emiliano Martinez, the goalkeeper for Aston Villa, recently discussed Aaron Ramsdale’s predicament at Arsenal and recommended that the young stopper look into joining a team where he is treated better. Since David Raya arrived at Arsenal last summer, Ramsdale has seen less playing time and has fallen out of favor.
Although there was much discussion when Mikel Arteta first decided to bring in Raya, the move ultimately paid off as Raya won the Premier League Golden Glove for the 2023–2024 season. Former Arsenal starter Ramsdale is currently being linked to a number of teams, including Chelsea, Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest, Wolves, and Southampton.
Southampton reportedly turned their attention to Feyenoord’s Justin Bijlow after considering a move for the England international. While Wolves do not currently have a need for a new goalkeeper, they may do so in the future if José Sá proves to be a better option.
Martinez, a former goalkeeper for Arsenal, stated in an interview that Ramsdale might benefit from a transfer to a team like Wolves. The conversation was about Ramsdale’s future at Arsenal. Ramsdale had established himself as Arsenal’s first choice keeper and Martinez acknowledged that he had high expectations when he joined the team. He did, however, stress how crucial it is that Ramsdale join a group where he feels appreciated, particularly in light of his skill and potential to be an important member of England’s national team.
Martinez also gave some thought to Aston Villa’s goals, stating that although the team qualified for the Champions League and finished in fourth place the previous year, he doesn’t think they can seriously contend with Manchester City or Arsenal for the Premier League title this year. He brought up the fact that the team had lost a few important players, which might make it harder to contend at the top level. Martinez proposed that Villa instead concentrate on making a strong cup run, maybe going after the FA Cup or the Carabao Cup.
Instead of going after Ramsdale, Southampton seems to be planning to sign Feyenoord’s Justin Bijlow. Due to injuries, Bijlow, who was Feyenoord’s first-choice goalkeeper in the 2023–24 campaign, saw a decrease in playing time and has since lost his starting spot to Timon Wellenreuther. Football writer Fabrizio Romano reports that Southampton and Feyenoord have verbally agreed to Bijlow’s transfer, with the last few details to be worked out before the Dutch goalkeeper departs for England to undergo his medical examinations.
