Arsenal advised to consider signing for one position as ideal option could be available for £40m

Even though there seems to be a bit of a gap up front, Premier League legend Alan Shearer believes Arsenal could use a new striker this summer and names Ivan Toney as a potential option for about £40 million. Shearer also seems to believe Mikel Arteta has hinted that the Gunners won’t necessarily be strengthening up front as a priority. Kai Havertz finished the previous season in superb form and also picked up a goal and an assist in the Premier League’s opening weekend at the Emirates Stadium.

While Gabriel Jesus and Leandro Trossard can also play up front, it’s possible that Arteta has complete faith in the Germany international for the duration of the upcoming season. Eddie Nketiah, on the other hand, has fallen out of favor recently and is expected to leave after being linked to Everton by Football Insider.

Toney transfer looks like a huge opportunity for Arsenal

Given that Toney is in his last year of his Brentford contract, Arsenal should definitely give him serious consideration, especially if he is available for a low price.

Shearer seems to believe Arsenal could use some reinforcements in that area, but he isn’t sure the team will make a move for Toney.

Should I have the choice, I would try to bring one in. It doesn’t sound like they’re going to bring one in, based on Mikel, Shearer stated on the podcast The Rest Is Football.

“He wants a striker to boost the team’s output from last year, surpassing that of Havertz, Trossard, Saka, and others. Are they able to locate that player? I see no reason why not.

From Brentford’s perspective, I believe they will most likely need to sell Ivan Toney. They cannot afford to let him go for free and wait another six months.

“I think it would be closer to £40 million; I would be shocked if he went for £15 million.”

It will be interesting to watch this one and see if the Gunners can be persuaded to sign the 28-year-old, who was left out of Thomas Frank’s squad for yesterday’s victory over Crystal Palace. Gary Lineker also seemed to think that Toney could be a good signing for Arsenal.
