Real Sociedad’s best player is reportedly available for Arsenal to sign, according to Mundo Deportivo (Gipuzkoa edition). Mikel Merino is the main player the Gunners are aiming for to bolster their midfield. According to reports, Sociedad received a verbal offer of £26 million from Arsenal, but Mundo Deportivo makes it clear that no formal bid has yet been made.
Arsenal is “ready to go all out” to sign the Spain international, but Sociedad hasn’t gotten a formal offer yet. The only other team to submit a proposal is Atletico Madrid, but Merino turned it down.
Merino’s transfer to Arsenal could be completed shortly as the Gunners and the player have already reached a personal agreement for a long-term contract. Now that Sociedad has signed Luka Susic from Red Bull Salzburg as a possible replacement, the transfer is anticipated to move forward swiftly. Susic, a central midfielder with left foot, is considered Merino’s heir.
Arsenal usually concentrates on one transfer at a time, but now that Emile Smith Rowe has joined Fulham, the team may pursue Merino more quickly. Because of his defensive prowess and inventiveness in the midfield, Kieran Tierney called the Spanish midfielder “world-class,” and Mikel Arteta would benefit greatly from having him in the starting lineup.
The winner of Euro 2024, Merino, excelled in La Liga the previous season, winning an astounding 10.2 duels per contest in addition to 6.2 recoveries and 2.4 tackles. In the last third, he also made 13 goal involvements. His diverse skill set makes him a perfect addition to Arsenal.
