Arsenal’s Pre-Season Preparations and First Summer Signing

Last week, Arsenal revealed the arrival of young goalkeeper Lucas Nygaard from FC Nordsjaelland as their first summer addition. The Denmark U18 international is scheduled to join Arsenal’s U21 squad, but because Aaron Ramsdale and David Raya are still playing in Euro 2024, he should have an opportunity to play with the first team during preseason.

Pre-Season Equipment and Instruction

Nygaard has started training with his new academy teammates with less than three weeks until their trip to the United States and less than four weeks until Arsenal’s first confirmed preseason match. Mehmet Ali, the U21 coach, conducted their first practice back on July 1.

On Saturday, July 13, Nygaard may make his U21 debut against Boreham Wood prior to the first team’s preseason games. Former loanees Salah-Eddine Oulad M’Hand, Omar Rekik, Brian Okonkwo, Mika Biereth, Charlie Patino, Zane Monlouis, Charles Sagoe Jr., and Nathan Butler-Oyedeji are among the other players participating in preseason training.

Participating in the session was Elian Quesada-Thorn, who appeared to have accepted Arsenal’s offer of a new contract, though no formal announcement has been made as of yet. There was also Ethan Nwaneri, who is expected to play a bigger role in the first team come next season.

Health and Preparedness

Due to their early training schedule, the academy players should have an advantage in terms of fitness and be ready to step up when Mikel Arteta needs them later in the summer. A less formal fitness camp with Arteta has already been attended by a few senior players in recent days.
