In the competition to sign PSV Eindhoven forward Johan Bakayoko, Arsenal has reportedly surpassed Bayern Munich and Liverpool, according to the Belgian publication Gazet van Antwerpen.

In order to improve their chances of winning the title the following season, the Gunners are eager to bolster their attacking options this summer. Arsenal has long had their eye on the Belgium international. Even though they haven’t signed a contract with Bakayoko or PSV yet, one appears very likely to happen given that the Dutch team is probably willing to part with one of their best players for a transfer fee of about €45 million.

In 33 league games, 21-year-old Bakayoko scored 12 goals and provided nine assists, making for an outstanding 2023–24 season. Additionally, he contributed an assist and a goal in eight Champions League games. Romelu Lukaku, a fellow Belgian, has praised Bakayoko, describing him as “incredible” and implying that if he keeps up this current trajectory, he could surpass his own accomplishments.

Playing mostly on the right wing, Bakayoko will have to contend with Bukayo Saka for a starting position if he signs with Arsenal. If he places a high value on being guaranteed a spot in the starting lineup, this competition may discourage him from relocating to North London, thus costing Arsenal the chance to sign him.

Despite this, Bakayoko’s abilities and style of play make him the perfect addition to Arsenal’s attacking depth. Even so, at just 21, he might be hesitant to take a part that doesn’t guarantee him plenty of free time.

As of right now, Bakayoko has played 33 minutes for Belgium in the European Championship. He is anticipated to start in place of Dodi Lukebakio, who is suspended, in Wednesday’s match against Ukraine. Bakayoko will try to impress prospective suitors as the competition goes on, and Arsenal will keep an eye on his play before deciding whether or not to make the transfer.
