Nico Williams, a winger for Athletic Bilbao, is reportedly one of Arsenal’s top targets for the summer transfer window, according to The Athletic.

Williams stood out with 8 goals and 19 assists in 37 appearances during his stellar 2023–24 season with Bilbao. Arsenal is becoming more interested in him as his outstanding play at the current European Championship continues.

Another Spaniard and manager of Arsenal, Mikel Arteta, has a great deal of respect for Williams. In his opinion, the 21-year-old is among the best choices if Arsenal decides to add another winger.

Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli are currently Arsenal’s wide attacking options on the left, while Bukayo Saka is a mainstay on the right. Even with Saka’s steady goal contributions, Arteta might look for more quality in order to reduce Saka’s workload.

Williams might be a great addition in this context. Although he spent most of the previous season playing on the left side for Bilbao, he was a standout right winger in 2022–2023. He is a great asset because of his versatility, speed, and defensive work rate in addition to his excellent dribbling abilities.

Williams’ contract includes a £46.5 million release clause, and The Athletic observes that Bilbao is unlikely to accept a lower offer. In the current market, this price might represent a good deal given his youth and potential.

It remains to be seen, though, if Williams can be persuaded to join Arsenal in the absence of regular starts.
