The Liverpool Echo reports that Arsenal has started talking to Everton about possible trades for Amadou Onana. Onana is supposedly up for sale from Everton for £50 million.

For £33 million, the 22-year-old Onana left LOSC Lille to join Everton in 2022. He has since made 72 appearances and appeared in 63 of the 76 Premier League games since moving to Merseyside, solidifying his place on the squad.

Onana, who is presently representing Belgium in the European Championships, is anticipated to be a key member of his country’s squad. When Belgium plays Slovakia on Monday night at Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt, he probably starts. Despite having only 13 caps for his country, he has participated in all four friendlies this year and made the starting lineup in Brussels earlier this month against Luxembourg and Montenegro. Good results in the competition might make him more valuable to companies.

The Liverpool Echo claims that Arsenal, who has been watching the Belgian international for some time, has now reached out to Everton to discuss the conditions of a possible transfer. Onana may be sold by Everton, according to reports, if a £50 million offer is made.

Although there aren’t any official talks yet, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano says Everton is expecting offers for Onana, especially from Arsenal.

Everton had financial issues the previous season, which included an eight-point deduction for breaking the Profitability and Sustainability rules. Had an appeal been filed, the deduction would have been up to twelve points. Everton may have to sell important players due to financial strain; Jarrad Branthwaite is also reportedly on the move.

Signing Onana makes strategic sense for Arsenal. This summer, Mikel Arteta might need to make changes to the midfield. Given Thomas Partey’s injury history—he only started ten games last season—and Mohamed Elneny’s expiring contract, as well as Albert Sambi Lokonga’s stated desire to leave, any offers for Partey, whether from Saudi Arabia or elsewhere, would need to be taken into consideration.

Only Declan Rice and 32-year-old Jorginho remain for Arsenal in this scenario; although he recently inked a contract extension, his age may make him unreliable as a regular starter. Arsenal will therefore probably need to add one or two new midfield players this summer. A younger and more dependable option than Partey, Onana seems like a great fit, especially considering Everton’s financial difficulties, which may make him more accessible.

Arsenal used to be reluctant to sign players from the Premier League, but in the last ten years, they have demonstrated a renewed willingness to do so. David Raya, Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, Jorginho, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Gabriel Jesus, Leandro Trossard, Benjamin White, and Aaron Ramsdale are among the recent additions. Is Onana going to be the next person on this list?
