Pascal Chimbonda only prevailed twice against Arsenal in fifteen attempts. That number was just one out of nine when he played for Tottenham.

Although the current record of six wins out of fifteen is undoubtedly better, Spurs haven’t won in a North London Derby in almost two years. With both teams vying for fourth place and Champions League qualification, that decisive 3-0 victory was monumental.

Ange Postecoglou’s team was leading the table at the end of September, making the 2-2 draw earlier in the season one of the most exciting and anticipated at the time. The stakes are higher now.

Both teams’ hopes of winning the Premier League or earning a top-four spot would be severely damaged by a defeat. For both managers, missing out would mean more than just giving up the ability to brag.

Despite the fact that the teams’ point differential is greater than Tottenham would like after a full season of intense derby matches, there has been significant progress. With his thrilling brand of football and the addition of fresh talent to the team, Postecoglou has captured the hearts of many.

He has already managed an exciting point away to Manchester City, so defeating Arsenal would be his biggest scalp to date. Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta is trying to overcome the intense environment and move up to the top of the table where he can increase his lead.

However, Chimbonda is aware of who he would prefer to represent. At the North London Derby mural at Ladbrokes Fanzone, he said, “I think that, of the two managers, I’d rather play for Ange Postecoglou.”

“You know, as an ex-Spurs player, I wouldn’t want to go and play for Arsenal!” the former Blackburn and Wigan player continued. I don’t want to alienate Spurs supporters because I am aware of how intense that rivalry is! I’d also rather play for Postecoglou because, in my opinion, he gives you the freedom to enjoy yourself on the field.”
