Three Arteta signings torn to shreds as Arsenal boss is told he is under ‘pressure’ to deliver silverware

Stan Collymore has criticized three of Arsenal’s recent acquisitions and believes that Mikel Arteta’s future there may be in jeopardy.

Unquestionably, Arsenal has improved significantly under Arteta in the last few years, going from struggling in the Europa League to title contenders in a short period of time.

But after Arsenal’s Champions League elimination by Bayern Munich and their disappointing Premier League loss to Aston Villa, things have somewhat heated up against Arteta.

With six games remaining, the Gunners are only two points behind Man City in second place in the Premier League.

Even though Arteta has helped Arsenal win major trophies over the past few seasons, Collymore has questioned whether the 42-year-old is the right man to lead the team to victory.

“Do we have a serious talk about whether he’s (Arteta) the man to take the big silverware to Arsenal if we don’t win the title (especially as they’re out of the CL now)?” he asked Caught Offside.

Playing Kai Havertz in midfield against a well-prepared Villa team that outwitted and outfought them in the second half cost £690 million. Arsenal should at the very least be searching the market to see if there is anyone who can help them cross the finish line if there is another choke on the same scale as last year.

“Arteta’s no rookie let’s not forget.”

Arteta signings questioned

While Collymore has questioned some of Arteta’s signings, overall, there’s no denying that he’s done a fantastic job in north London.

In north London, Declan Rice has been a huge success, but the same cannot be said for Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko, and Kai Havertz, who have all been questioned by Collymore.

“He was an apprentice at City, had plenty of time to settle in and put his ideas into practice at Arsenal, and brought in the players HE wanted, like Havertz and Jesus, who hasn’t proven to be a consistent 25-goal scorer when healthy. If Zinchenko is the ‘leader’ who would turn the team into winners, I haven’t seen it in his performances yet.

“Mikel, the pressure is on.” Put the players behind you and show that you can take the lead when it matters.

During Arteta’s first season at the club, Arsenal won the FA Cup, but they haven’t taken home any significant trophies since.

Under the Spanish coach, the team seems to be moving in the right direction, but it’s unclear if he’s the right guy to bring home the major trophies.
