Martin Odegaard, Jurrien Timber - Arsenal injury news and return dates before Bayern Munich tie

Latest Arsenal injury news ahead of the clash against Bayern Munich with Mikel Arteta sweating on the fitness of club captain Martin Odegaard

Arsenal and Mikel Arteta have to move past their loss to Aston Villa on Sunday because they have a crucial Champions League match against Bayern Munich on Wednesday. Over the past few weeks, the Gunners have been fortunate to have a healthy roster thanks to the return of Thomas Partey, Bukayo Saka, and Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Although players like Saka and Gabriel Magalhaes are major injury doubts going into the weekend, Arteta’s core group of players has always been able to play a significant role. But against Bayern, that might be different because Martin Odegaard, the team captain, suffered a new injury in the loss to Aston Villa.

With the tweaks Arteta made over the weekend, the Arsenal manager needs to make a lot of crucial choices to give his team the best chance to advance to the Champions League semifinals.

In light of this, football.london has reviewed the most recent Arsenal injury updates prior to their trip to Germany for the second leg of their quarterfinal Champions League matchup with Bayern Munich.

Martin Odegaard

With ten minutes remaining, the Arsenal captain was substituted off the field due to injury. Odegaard was replaced by Emile Smith Rowe, even though his team was still trying to find a winner at the time.

Injury: Unknown.

Arteta’s statement: “He was experiencing a feeling. He was unable to go on.”

Possible return date: Wednesday, April 17, Champions League – Bayern Munich (A).

Bukayo Saka

Saka was observed hobbling as the Villa match came to a close. Though he was unable to make much of an impact on the game after the half, he nearly scored in the first half. He has only been back from the sidelines for two weeks after suffering an injury.

Injury: Unknown.

What Arteta has said: N/A

Possible return date: Wednesday, April 17, Champions League – Bayern Munich (A).

Gabriel Jesus

Earlier in the week, Gabriel Jesus had been complaining of knee pain and having to play through it. This led to inquiries being made at Arteta during the press conference on Friday. Even though it might mean fewer minutes for him the rest of the season, the Gunners manager insisted the star had the fortitude to play through it.

He was substituted off in the second half as Arsenal looked to score a goal against Aston Villa.

Injury: Knee pain.

Arteta’s statement: “I think it’s very difficult to play in elite sport without pain.” Any player you ask will tell you that, “Yeah, there is pain sometimes and you have to deal with that,” especially when playing the level we play and every three days.

“Gabi has this toughness and this character that he always wants to overcome [it], and that is what makes you too. He is back and ready after overcoming some injury-related challenges.”

Return date: Returned.

Jurrien Timber

After suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury during the Premier League match against Nottingham Forest back in August, the defender has been recuperating. He only made one other appearance, which was against Manchester City in the Community Shield.

Before the recent international break, Timber was in team training. Arteta was left out of the squad to play Bayern Munich or Brighton, despite his hopes of playing again this season.

Injury: Knee.

Arteta’s statement: “He still needs to take a few steps. He must participate in at least one game with the 23s. Too soon, we’ll have an internal game. After completing all of his training, he now needs to focus on getting match fit, surrounding himself with support, and participating in a football game—all of which are distinct from training. He will have a significant impact on the team, based on his performance in training and during his time fit.

Potential return date: Unknown.
