Pundit thinks one Real Madrid player could cause a big problem for Man City, it’s not Bellingham or Vinicius

According to Mario Melchiot, one Real Madrid player might pose a serious threat to a specific Manchester City player tonight.

The Blues need to defeat Real Madrid over two legs in order to advance to this season’s Champions League semifinals after defeating Copenhagen in the round of 16.

In their quarterfinal first-leg matchup at the Santiago Bernabeu this evening, Pep Guardiola’s team will face the Spanish club. One analyst has identified a player in Carlo Ancelotti’s lineup who could pose a threat to one of City’s top players.

Pundit identifies one Real Madrid player who one Man City star may find problematic.

In a recent video that was posted to the ESPN FC YouTube channel, Melchiot discussed Erling Haaland and the Real player who might cause him trouble tonight.

The intriguing thing is that, when I watched him play against Arsenal, for instance, Gabriel and [William] Saliba did a fantastic job of playing physically.

“I think it will be an interesting battle again when he goes up against [Antonio] Rudiger.”

“I feel like this might be the guy again when he faces off against people who don’t have the fear to oppose him—because everyone almost has it, but the people who don’t are willing to go toe to toe.

“Whether or not Rudiger is that good, he’s going toe to toe, but he might just go at it.”

Not just Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham are potential threats to Man City.

Melchiot believes Rudiger could be a problem for City, which is interesting given that Real has players like Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Junior in their ranks who have scored seven goals in total in the Champions League this season.

When the two teams last met at the Bernabeu, Haaland had two attempts on goal but was unable to find the back of the net. City ended up drawing 1-1 with Ancelotti’s team.

Rudiger’s perspective was that he won two of the six duels he engaged in, despite making three clearances in the ninety minutes.

The German has appeared in all but one of Real Madrid’s eight Champions League games this season, playing the entire ninety minutes on six of those occasions.

The 31-year-old has made more blocks (13), and clearances (22) than any other player in those six games for the team.

This makes it clear why Melchiot believes Haaland will have a difficult time defeating the former Chelsea defender this time around.
