"I told Arsenal that they were playing in the Champions League, but they believed that Burnley and West Ham would score five goals each." Sergio Conceicao, the coach of FC Porto, chastises Arteta for using the wrong strategies during yesterday's loss.

In response to Mikel Arteta’s assertion that his team had “no intention of playing” during Arsenal’s Champions League loss on Wednesday night, Porto head coach Sergio Conceicao has responded.

At the Estadio do Dragao, Arsenal looked headed for a goalless draw until Porto took advantage of a poor pass from Gabriel Martinelli, and Galeno beat David Raya with an incredible curling attempt from outside the box.

For the first time since 2011, Arteta’s team failed to register a shot on goal in the Champions League, exhibiting a lack of the movement they’ve displayed in the Premier League lately.

Following Arsenal’s loss, Arteta responded to a question concerning Porto’s strategy by saying, “We are very used to playing against these defensive blocks, especially in the first half we lacked certain things.”

We will use what we’ve learned to sharpen our comeback strategy.

The attitude of our team was its greatest asset. We desired to engage in play. Aggression was not lacking in our group. This is what we have to do when we have a team that doesn’t want to play and such a low block.

“It’s an opinion,” Arteta said in response to a question concerning his assessment of Porto’s mindset toward the match. Both of us wanted to win, and they wanted to play.

“Arteta is a product of the Pep Guardiola school, which is run by the most successful coach in history.”

Though this depends on the team and its players, they think that having more ball possession is the best strategy to defeat their opponents.
