Club legend Emmanuel Petit believes that since Arsenal has a “leader” on the squad, they ought to replace their current captain.

For the 2022–2023 season, Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard was chosen.

Although the 25-year-old continues to wear the captain’s armband, Mikel Arteta is under pressure to assign the position to a different player on his team.

After three seasons at Arsenal, Petit believes Declan Rice should be selected as captain after applauding his attributes and performance against Liverpool the previous weekend.

Last Sunday, Arsenal defeated Liverpool 3-1, cutting the difference between them and their rivals to just two points.

Rice’s play in the midfield with Jorginho’s helps, in Petit’s opinion, helped them win the game.

The midfield helped Arsenal win the match, according to the Spaniard.

They physically, technically, and tactically dominated the midfield, and it was crucial to their performance.Rice and Jorginho gave outstanding performances.

Since joining Arsenal for £105 million last summer after leaving West Ham United, Rice—who has already been dubbed the Premier League player of the season—has settled in quickly and has been putting up commanding performances in the middle of the field.

And Petit, who is full of admiration for the England international, believes that he ought to take over as captain of Arsenal.

To him, he said, “I think he should be captain of Arsenal.”

“He is a leader and has such a great character.

“He is so influential in big games and has something different from the other players.”

The 25-year-old has experience leading his side; in the previous campaign, he helped West Ham win the Europa Conference League.
