Het Nieuwsblad reports that Everton midfielder Amadou Onana is considering a transfer to Arsenal, but the club might not be able to afford him this winter.

This month, the Belgian international has been linked to the Gunners, and his agent reportedly had a conversation with club executives.

Het Nieuwsblad claims that although Arsenal has not yet made an official offer for his services, talks about a potential deal are reportedly taking place with the Toffees.

The midfield player is reportedly considering a transfer to the London team, but they “cannot push” to sign him because to “limitations” in their budget.

To let go of the former Lille star, Everton is seeking at least €70 million.

It’s unlikely that Arsenal can afford to sign Onana long-term.

In the top level of England, Onana has proven to be one of the best defensive midfielders.

He’s picked up 6.6 ball recoveries, 2.6 tackles, and 7.1 duels per game this season. 50% of his takeovers and 70% of his aerial challenges have been won by him.

Declan Rice would be a great midfield partner for Onana at Arsenal. If Onana joins the club, Rice will have his chance to flourish as number eight.

With Thomas Partey in the starting lineup at the beginning of the season, Arsenal had intended to do so; however, the Ghanaian has been out for several months and is no longer a reliable player.

In the future, Onana might take Partey’s place. We think there’s little chance of a deal this month because almost all Premier League clubs are cautious about going above FFP limits.

Top-tier teams spent a total of €726 million on acquisitions last winter, according to Transfermarkt. However, because of teams’ worries about point deductions, this amount has now been reduced to just €39 million.
