Finally ✅ Victor Osimhen’s transfer to Arsenal is going to be completed after the player issued an Arsenal transfer message indicating that he will join after the Afcon.

In Sunday’s African Cup of Nations tie between Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea, Victor Osimhen—a transfer target for Arsenal—scored once more for his country, but his performance was not without consequence.

Leading the Super Eagles’ line in the Ivory Coast group opener, the 25-year-old marked the start of Jose Peseiro’s team’s aspirational journey to become African champions. Nigeria, the favorites to go through Group A with the hosts, Ivory Coast, were stopped to a 1-1 draw by the world’s 88th-ranked country.

Osimhen promptly cancelled off Iban Salvador’s opening goal in the 36th minute by using excellent center-forward instinct to head Ademola Lookman’s cross. But in spite of their superiority, Nigeria wasted resources and were unable to produce a champion.

In the second half, Osimhen squandered a few excellent opportunities, one of which came right after the break. The striker’s shot accuracy was actually only 33% from six opportunities, according to FOTMOB, meaning that only two of his attempts on goal were on target.

The Napoli striker had one more fantastic chance to win the match at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium with just fifteen minutes left. He attempted a right-footed shot that went wide of the post, something we’ve seen him do a lot over the past several months.

Osimhen is a dangerous forward with a £112 million release clause in his current Napoli contract. The 25-year-old has scored 39 goals in all competitions during the last two seasons (2022–2023 and 2023–2024), including 31 in 39 last season.

He is a perfect fit for Arsenal’s center-forward needs. For a while now, Mikel Arteta’s club has been lacking a consistent goal scorer, and a strong striker is reportedly a top target for the January transfer window.

With Osimhen’s mark more noticeable for the summer, Ivan Toney’s entrance is more likely to happen this month. Osimhen’s performances at AFCON will be closely monitored by the Gunners, as he is anticipated to face several low blocks, including Equatorial Guinea.
