On Saturday night, Anfield will play host to a delectable match as the Reds look to win three points that could put them at the top of the table come Christmas.

Heading into the match, Jürgen Klopp’s team is confident after the Gunners defeated West Ham United 5-1 in the midweek, securing a spot in the Carabao Cup final four.

And Van Dijk is eager to celebrate another significant occasion this weekend, which he and his teammates are adamant about exceeding.

“Definitely,” the captain stated to Liverpoolfc.com, “[Saturday] is a ma̧̦ive game.”

Arsenal are in excellent form, and we have a very difficult game ahead of us. It will undoubtedly be a significant event, and I am eagerly anticipating it.

They are excellent; as a team, they excel in all facets. They are really good, in my opinion, and we need to perform exceptionally well over the weekend to win the match. However, I really enjoy examining my own team and what we can contribute. We have a lot of work ahead of us, and we can make things very challenging for them as well.

“I have a lot of respect for them. However, I want to win the game, so I’ll do everything within my and our power to achieve that.

The visit of Mikel Arteta’s squad is the eighth game in Liverpool’s December schedule across three competitions.

The Reds will return to action at Turf Moor on Saturday, 72 hours after their match at Anfield, when they take on Burnley in the Premier League.

When asked about his strategy during such a difficult stretch of the season, Van Dijk responded, “I’ve been playing in England for quite some time now, and I’m used to the intense period that December i̕.”

“The lesson would be to rest, eat healthily, receive treatment, get better, and have fun. That’s the vicious cycle that never ends.

It can be difficult at times, but it’s a necessary part of what we do and what we have to do to be prepared because, at the end of the day, everyone is playing the game to win, and nobody really pays attention to what happens before or during the game. However, there are many things that we must do to prepare for a game.

As the 2023–24 season draws to a close, Van Dijk and company have only lost three of their 26 games across all competitions.

“Just one spot below the summit of the Premier League, they have advanced to the Europa League Round of 16 and will take on Fulham in a two-leg Carabao Cup semifinal in January.

Thus, how does the captain feel about “Liverpool 2.0” thus far?

“I think we’re still improving and growing, based on our current feeling,” stated the Dutchman. However, in my opinion, we are content with our current situation—certainly better than we were a year ago.

There are a lot of things we can accomplish, and I have the impression that we can. We still have a long way to go, but we’ll keep working hard and getting better.

“I think there’s always room for improvement. Particularly when you consider our team, where so many up-and-coming younger players are given the chance.

It all comes down to gaining experience, showcasing your qualities, and demonstrating your abilities. And completing everything at once, since that’s crucial. Let’s continue.

Arsenal last visited Anfield in April, and despite trailing by two goals, the Reds managed to salvage a point.

This term, the squad’s resilient mindset persisted as a major theme, with Klopp’s charge producing several comebacks and vital late goals along the way.

The fact that Van Dijk has that quality gives him hope: “The resilience obviously is the minimum I think it should be in any team; you should never give up and never feel like you [have] loet the game or you can’t come back from 1-0 or 2-0 down even, or a red card like we’ve had this episode on a few occasions as well.

“The key is to persevere and never give up.” That is unquestionably a very useful feature to have, as well as one of the most significant.
