Arsenal is paying closer attention to Everton midfielder Amadou Onana as a possible addition to their team as the January transfer window draws near. Although talks about a marquee striker signing had been mentioned previously, Arsenal’s current priorities are strengthening their defense and central midfield. The Daily Mail claims that because of his strength, quickness, and technical ability, Onana, who is 6 feet 4 inches tall, is a player that Arsenal is considering. With important players like Jorginho, Mohamed Elneny, and Thomas Partey out with injuries, the Gunners’ midfield injury crisis may be alleviated by the possible transfer of the Belgian midfielder.
Onana’s move to Everton notwithstanding, Arsenal has long been interested in him, and if they can sign him, that will greatly improve their chances of winning the Premier League. Though they have looked at other options, such as Joao Palhinha of Fulham, Arsenal is constrained by policy because Onana is 28 years old.
Due to the midfield injury crisis the Gunners are facing, Partey’s impending return could be a relief. But given Partey’s continued injury history, Onana’s powerful tackling skills and ability to recover balls make him a desirable addition to Arsenal.
Even though Onana looks like a promising addition for Arsenal, Everton isn’t changing their mind about the midfield player. The club might ask for a hefty price, perhaps as much as £50 million, given that it turned down bids during the winter relegation struggle last year. Despite the difficulties, Onana’s work ethic and the possibility of improving distribution with teammates at Arsenal who are more suited to his style make him an attractive January addition.
