Arteta immediately backtracks after signing, saying, “He will cost Arsenal just the weekly wage of average Kai havertz and will make instance impact to improve the squad depth.”

The goal for Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta in January is to bolster his team, and the Gunners have their eye on a young player who shows promise.

After his side was soundly defeated by a makeshift Arsenal side at the London Stadium on Wednesday night in the Carabao Cup, Arteta came to the realization that his team isn’t good enough to compete in every tournament.

Although Gabriel Jesus, Thomas Partey, and Jurrien Timber’s injuries have affected the team on the field, the Gunners are concentrating on upcoming challenges that will impede their progress in the Premier League and the Champions League.

Keeping that in mind, Geny Catamo of Sporting Lisbon, who is said to have a £52 million release clause, is reportedly of interest to Arsenal, according to the Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manha.

This season, Catamo has started every Sporting game and has shown great versatility as a left and right wing-back. With the current 3-4-2-1 formation used by the Portuguese team, the 22-year-old is anticipated to play both up and down the sides. The Arsenal scouting team has taken notice of him after he has assisted two goals and scored twice in 13 games this season.

With his ability to play both full-back and as a pure winger, the Mozambique international gives Mikel Arteta additional options in the attacking end.

Naturally left-footed, Catamo’s contract with Sporting expires in June 2025. Sporting may attempt to sell Catamo for a lower price either in January or next summer in order to cash in on him before losing him for free, even though his £52 million release clause may put off potential buyers.
