Merson warns Arteta about ‘unplayable’ Chelsea star who could end Arsenal streak

Merson alerts Arteta to a ‘unplayable’ Chelsea player who might end Arsenal’s winning streak.

When the two teams face off after the break in international play, Paul Merson has singled out a certain Chelsea player who could pose issues for Arsenal. On Saturday, October 21, Mauricio Pochettino will greet the Gunners at Stamford Bridge in what is anticipated to be a ferocious London derby.

The former Arsenal midfielder wrote in a blog for Sky Sports that the Blues ‘can beat anybody’ on a good day and are better against greater competition. Only draws with Tottenham and Fulham cost Mikel Arteta’s team points during their unblemished start to the Premier League season.

It will be exciting because they’ll take Chelsea on, remarked Merson. “But they have performed well this season against the bigger clubs, like Liverpool who gave it a good go.

It will be exciting, but opponents won’t want to play Chelsea because they can beat anyone on any given day, and Raheem Sterling is unplayable when he is performing like he did against Burnley.

This weekend’s matchup between Chelsea and the Gunners comes off a stunning 4-1 victory against Burnley. While Arsenal easily defeated the defending champions Manchester City, the west Londoners grabbed three points away from Vincent Kompany’s newly promoted team.

Merson also thinks that his previous team’s chances of winning the Premier League, let alone at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, will have been significantly increased. “To win after going that long without defeating Man City is a massive result as it gives Arsenal that belief they can now win the Premier League,” the 55-year-old remarked.

“Keeping the game close following the results the previous week was crucial. A few weeks ago, you would have believed that if Man City defeated Arsenal, they would surpass them by seven points and Arsenal’s season would be over.

“Now that they have defeated them, it will boost their confidence greatly; if they had defeated them just once last year, they would have won the league. That’s how huge it is, then.

To dismantle Arsenal, Chelsea will have to perform at their absolute peak. Even though the Blues face a challenging matchup, they can take heart from the likely return of club captain Reece James, who has been sidelined since the first weekend of the new Premier League season with a knock.
