On Thursday, Mohamed Elneny made an impact for Egypt in his first start since January due to an injury.
Mohamed Elneny, who was injured for the majority of 2023, regained his fitness in September and began to reappear in Arsenal lineups.
Even more impressively, the midfielder returned to action with Arsenal before the end of the previous month, playing eight minutes against Brentford. However, he is yet to start for the Gunners since his injury return.
Elneny’s place in Egypt’s starting lineup on Thursday was therefore his first start following his injury.
As part of their ongoing preparations for the next World Cup qualifiers and the Africa Cup of Nations in January, Egypt was competing against Zambia in a friendly match.
Elneny only played for the first 45 minutes, but he did well. Viewers noted that he was one of Egypt’s finest players in the opening period, and many speculated that his substitution was likely preplanned for match fitness concerns.
Egypt ultimately won the friendly game 1-0 after scoring late. They will now get ready for their second friendly of the break against Algeria on Monday, and Elneny might receive another chance to start.
