Despite scoring against Bournemouth yesterday, it appears like Kai Havertz’s situation has not changed all that much.
After scoring a confidence-boosting goal, Mikel Arteta believes that Havertz will now continue, but Alan Shearer, a former Newcastle United striker who is now a commentator, disagrees.
Shearer stated last night while on duty for Match of the Days.
“When you look at the data, there is undoubtedly a player there, but for a guy of his caliber, the numbers don’t fit. They must advance.
“You are aware, though, that a squad player these days costs between £60 and £70 million. He will therefore perform his duties, but I doubt he will be a consistent player.
Just Arsenal Opinion
To change the unfavorable perception that has developed around him, Havertz will need to accomplish much more than just make a penalty kick. Obviously, scoring will have boosted his confidence, but the German still has a lot of work to do, according to comments on this website and those of pundits like Shearer.
Although supporters only care about on-field performances, Havertz should now prove that the money Arsenal spent on him was worthwhile. After all, if he didn’t have potential, Chelsea and then Arsenal wouldn’t have spent a lot of money to sign him.
