Declan Rice has been nominated alongside Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland for the 2023 FIFA Award.
Declan Rice, a dynamic midfielder, has been nominated for the prestigious Best FIFA Men’s Player of the Year award in recognition of his outstanding on-field exploits. According to the release, Rice is one of the best 12 football players in the world, chosen for his outstanding performances between December 19, 2022, and August 20, 2023.
Rice is the only member of the Premier League competing for this coveted award outside of Manchester City, thus his candidacy is especially significant.
Before making a sensational £105 million transfer to the Emirates Stadium earlier this summer, the English international played a crucial part in West Ham’s victory in the Europa Conference League the previous season.
Rice has made an immediate impact since joining Arsenal, winning the team’s Player of the Month title for August. In September, his contribution to the team included a historic late goal that gave Arsenal a 3-1 victory over Manchester United.
Notably, Rice’s exceptional efforts were also recognized when he was named the Europa Conference League Player of the Year for the 2022–2023 season and was named to the coveted Team of the Tournament for the competition.
Only appearing in five games for the Gunners this season, including their FA Community Shield victory against Manchester City, the 24-year-old has quickly become a fan favorite at the Emirates Stadium.
The Ballon d’Or has some serious competition from the Best FIFA Awards, which are FIFA’s official acknowledgement of great talent in the football world. The Ballon d’Or did not include a number of notable players who are now in the running for The Best FIFA Player award when it announced its list of 30 nominees earlier this month. Jude Bellingham, Mohamed Salah, Harry Kane, and Martin Odegaard are a few of these conspicuous exclusions.
It was commonly believed that Bukayo Saka and Odegaard would be nominated ahead of Rice. FIFA’s choice, however, emphasizes the importance of the English international’s West Ham accomplishments in Europe in making its judgment.
Declan Rice, Julian Alvarez, Marcelo Brozovic, Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan, Erling Haaland, Rodri, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi, Victor Osimhen, and Bernardo Silva are all on the full list of contenders for the Best FIFA Men’s Player of the Year title.
Notable nominees include Victor Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia for their crucial contributions to Napoli’s Serie A title triumph, while Marcelo Brozovic’s selection is unexpected in light of Inter Milan’s run to the UEFA Champions League final. In addition, Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe, both of Paris Saint-Germain, are vying for the prize for the third time in their distinguished careers.
