Nicolas Pepe leaves Arsenal after completing move to Turkey

Nicolas Pepe completes move to Trabzonspor in Turkey.

Nicolas Pepe, an Arsenal winger who is entering the final ten months of his contract, is expected to leave the Emirates Stadium and join Trabzonspor of Turkey. The Ivorian, who had spent the previous season on loan at OGC Nice in Ligue 1, discovered that Mikel Arteta would not be using him for the 2023–24 season, which allowed for his impending transfer.

On Thursday, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano announced that Nicolas Pepe has signed a temporary deal with Trabzonspor with the intention of making a permanent move. The transaction is now complete after the Friday completion of the medical examinations.

Romano announced the development via his social media platform, stating, “Nicolas Pépé to Trabzonspor. Medical tests on Friday morning. Short term deal until June 2024. Player travelling later tonight. Here we go, confirmed.”

Pepe demonstrated his potential throughout his time at Arsenal, contributing to 48 goals across 112 games. However, the lofty standards set when he joined the club were frequently not met by his performances. Though there were rare bursts of brilliance in the Premier League, the most of his memorable performances took place in the Europa League.

Unai Emery was replaced by Mikel Arteta, apparently preferring Wilfried Zaha during the transfer window that brought Pepe to the club. This changed Pepe’s trajectory at Arsenal. Despite the fact that the player had great things to say about their working relationship earlier this summer, Pepe found it difficult to land a continuous role under Arteta’s direction.

It became increasingly clear that Pepe was not a part of the club’s long-term ambitions, despite his adoration for Arteta.

His playing time in the Premier League decreased during the 2021/22 season, which led to his loan transfer to Nice for the 2022/23 season. Pepe’s return to Ligue 1 did not produce the intended results, making Arsenal’s efforts to negotiate a permanent deal for him difficult.

According to reports, the player turned down a Besiktas offer and expressed no interest in joining the Saudi Pro League, making Trabzonspor the team most likely to sign him in the near future.
