Man City pile pressure on Bernardo Silva as he stalls on signing lucrative new contract

Bernardo Silva has been heavily linked with a move away from Manchester City this summer – although Pep Guardiola’s men are keen to tie him down to a new contract.

Bernardo Silva is being pressed by Manchester City for a response to their new contract proposal.

The 28-year-old Silva’s contract, which has two more seasons left on it, has been extended for two years, and the Premier League champions have also offered him a hefty pay raise that would bring his weekly salary to £300,000. This is an effort to put an end to the ongoing rumors over Silva’s future.

For the third summer in a row, Barcelona is interested in signing the Portuguese midfielder. Paris St. Germain is also a great fan, and Saudi club Al Hilal is willing to offer him £500,000 per week. Silva is valued by Pep Guardiola so highly that he has a £70 million valuation on him, although no team has yet to offer to pay that amount.

In order to show how much they want to keep him at the Etihad, the Blues have now taken the initiative and offered him a new contract.

Both winger Riyad Mahrez and captain Ilkay Gundogan have left City.

Aymeric Laporte, a target for Bayern Munich, and Kyle Walker’s futures are still uncertain, and Joao Cancelo has no chance of recovering from his fallout with Guardiola after losing his spot in the team last season.

Mateo Kovacic, a midfielder for Chelsea, is the only player they have signed thus far. In addition, the Blues like Josko Gvardiol of RB Leipzig as Laporte’s replacement.

But if Silva and Walker leave, they will have to return to the transfer market. Silva’s attitude during preseason has once again pleased Guardiola, and on Friday the midfielder joined teammates for a karaoke session after the team arrived in Japan to begin a three-game preseason tour of the Far East.

According to a report on Thursday, City is considering a possible transfer for Raphinha of Barcelona. Raphinha is reportedly admired by Pep Guardiola, and City are considering a transfer given that Barcelona must raise money before registering their new additions. After City agreed to a £30 million proposal for the winger, Mahrez will join the Saudi club Al-Ahli.

After the two clubs agreed on the price, Mahrez was not included in City’s traveling squad for their preseason tour of the Far East. After City received a new offer that met their valuation, the 32-year-old winger, who transferred to City from Leicester in 2018 for £60m, was given permission to skip the tour.

Raphinha joined Barcelona in a £55m move from Leeds last summer and has 10 goals and 12 assists in 50 appearances for the club. But Barca may be forced into selling with their well-publicised financial problems still affecting Xavi Hernandez’s transfer plans.
