Riyad Mahrez 'to undergo medical' ahead of Saudi Arabia move and more Man City transfer

Manchester City forward Riyad Mahrez is being heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia side Al-Ahli.

According to sources, Riyad Mahrez has reached a personal agreement with Al-Ahli of Saudi Arabia in advance of a probable transfer.

Ilkay Gundogan left for Barcelona after his contract expired this summer, and Manchester City has already said goodbye to one important player. More players could yet go this summer after Gundogan. While the fates of Aymeric Laporte, Joao Cancelo, Kyle Walker, and Bernardo Silva are all unsure, Mahrez now seems to be the most likely to be let go.

Despite Erling Haaland’s addition, the winger wasn’t as heavily relied upon for goals last season, but he was still an important part of Pep Guardiola’s team and produced 15 goals and 13 assists. Mahrez, though, was benched for both the FA Cup and Champions League finals and has since been connected to a transfer away from the club.

Mahrez might be the newest player to join the gold rush of Saudi Arabian clubs pouring millions during the transfer window to sign Premier League talents. Mahrez has reportedly reached a personal agreement with Al-Ahli and flown to Dubai to get checked out, according to Football Insider.

It will be noteworthy if Mahrez is absent when City report for preseason practice on Monday. The Algerian is expected to sign a two-year deal with a third-year option after agreeing to a “staggering contract offer worth £43 million per season plus bonuses,” the source continues.

The club and City do not yet appear to have reached a transfer agreement for Mahrez, though. The 32-year-old agreed to a new deal last summer that runs through 2025, so City are not under any obligation to sell without receiving a fair price.

Meanwhile, according to Football Transfers, City is thinking about trading Frenkie de Jong for Bernardo Silva and sending him to Barcelona.

Bernardo has long desired to live closer to his current location, but City has yet to even receive a mediocre offer for his services. The Blues’ asking price is unlikely to be met by cash-strapped Barcelona, thus a swap deal featuring De Jong has been proposed.

Following the departure of Gundogan and the failure to sign Declan Rice, City are looking to bolster their midfield, but De Jong is not currently thought to be a target. Although it came in response to a potential transfer to Manchester United, the Dutchman has often declared he does not want to leave the Camp Nou.

RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol is the club’s top target.
