Man City youngster Callum Doyle joins Leicester on season-long loan

Manchester City defender Callum Doyle has joined Leicester City on loan for the 2023/24 season.

The 19-year-old teams up with Enzo Maresca, a former Blues youth coach who was named the Foxes’ manager in June. Doyle spent the previous season on loan at Coventry, where he played 115 minutes before the team lost on penalties in the Championship play-off final.

He made 46 appearances for the Sky Blues, and the King Power Stadium will be where he continues his EFL career. The England Under-20 international exclaimed, “It’s fantastic to come to work in a place like this,” after signing.

“I’ve previously collaborated with Enzo and shared the Under-23s Premier League championship with him. It’s fantastic to work with him again because he really helped me grow.Getting the club back to its rightful place is undoubtedly what everyone is thinking about right now. With the team we have this season, I believe we’ll perform incredibly well.

Doyle, who signed a new four-year contract with City in January after joining the club in 2014, has not yet made his professional appearance for his parent club. During the 2021/22 season, while on loan at Sunderland, he experienced his first taste of first-team action.

The adolescent made 44 appearances as he assisted the Black Cats in their play-off victory against League One. He received a call from Coventry the following summer and continued to make an impact on manager Mark Robins, who praised him last season.

“I think he’s a really talented player with everything he needs to have a brilliant career in the game,” the speaker stated. He’s very, very skilled technically, and he’s picking up the other bits and pieces.

There is undoubtedly more work to be done, and where he plays the majority of his career will depend on that. However, he plays for a fantastic football team [in Manchester City].

We have benefited from his skills this year since they have outstanding coaches there as well, who have done a tremendous job with him.

Doyle said of his summer loan to Coventry: “The manager at Coventry showed me a few things to do to help myself [deal] with the big players which helped me get the upper hand really.”
