Erling Haaland is selected by Manchester City supporters as the team’s player of the year.
The Norwegian superstar didn’t need a settling-in season as he scored 52 goals in 53 games, including a Premier League-high 36 goals. As the Blues finally had the illusive Champions League trophy in their hands, the 22-year-old was the face of City’s Triple Success.
Haaland experienced a lot of special moments this year. After a Manchester derby hat-trick in October lit up the Etihad, five goals against RB Leipzig in the Champions League last-16 home match will always be remembered.
While his goal and two assists in the important 4-1 home Premier League victory over title rivals Arsenal laid another marker in the sand, there were also trebles against Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace, Wolves, and Burnley.
43 percent of the 2,506 City supporters who participated in the MEN Sport poll and cast their ballots selected Haaland as their player of the year. Rodri, on the other hand, came in second place with 31.9% of the market.
For the Blues, Rodri also enjoyed a standout season, which culminated in a decisive Champions League final goal. He only missed five City games all season, putting up a defensive masterclass.
His four goals, including a beauty against Bayern Munich in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinal match, demonstrated his effectiveness at the opposite end of the field as well. He’s been hailed as a potential captain by many.
Jack Grealish and Nathan Ake were also acknowledged by City supporters. With his ability to play both left and center back with skill, Ake was one of the season’s top defenders, receiving 15.1% of the vote.
Grealish, who had a 9.9% conversion rate, had a significantly better season than the previous one, making 50 appearances on the left wing. He finished the season with five goals, 11 assists, and a large partying weekend.
