Erling Haaland of Manchester City was named the FWA Footballer of the Year on Thursday night, although he acknowledged that one of his former title opponents could have won the honor in his place.
Martin Odegaard, an Arsenal foe and international teammate, has been proposed by Erling Haaland as a candidate for the Football Writers’ Footballer of the Year award.
Following an incredible season, the Manchester City striker won the annual Football Writers’ Association award on Thursday night. Following his transfer from Borussia Dortmund, he has eye-wateringly scored 52 goals in his first season in England, with 36 of those coming in the Premier League.
Pep Guardiola’s team is on the verge of a historic treble thanks to their goal-scoring performance. In addition to having a spot in the Champions League and FA Cup finals, City has already clinched the Premier League championship.
Haaland chose an overseas teammate and one of his somewhat underappreciated City coworkers when asked who should receive the prize instead of him after winning his most recent honor.
If I had to choose another player to win Player of the Year, I would say my Norwegian friend, [Martin] Odegaard, has had a really outstanding season, he said in a statement to William Hill.
There are other teammates who easily could have taken home the trophy because the Manchester City club has a number of players who have excelled this year. You can observe how Rodri has been consistently reliable throughout the entire season if you watch every one of our games.Because he plays in the middle and is in charge of keeping everything together, I believe that occasionally he is a little concealed. I don’t want to mention any names, but one of them might have been involved.

Odegaard has had a spectacular season after
aiding Arsenal in their improbable title defense. This season, the former playmaker for Real Madrid has 15 goals and eight assists in the Premier League.
Odegaard, a longtime friend of Haaland’s, confirmed that the two had briefly discussed the striker joining him when he was at Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid.
The Arsenal player was cited as saying by the Daily player: “Erling and I are good friends, so we talk about lots of things.”
He continued, “I was there [at Real Madrid], so yeah, we talked about it, but it’s not anything special.”
Before the last Premier League games of the season, both players are competing for another significant award. Along with Kevin De Bruyne from Man City, Haaland has been nominated for the league’s Player of the Season honor.
Along with Bukayo Saka, an associate at Arsenal, Odegaard has also been recognized. They are both contenders for the Premier League Young Player of the Season honor.
