Manchester City celebrated a third successive Premier League title win on Sunday, with their players lifting the trophy after a heavily rotated side pipped Chelsea at home

Pep Guardiola has joined Sir Alex Ferguson as the only managers who have consecutively won three Premier League championships.

Last season, Guardiola’s Manchester City came back from a goal down against Aston Villa on the last day of the campaign to secure first place. However, things were sealed up a little quicker this time around, as a third straight championship was assured when Arsenal fell to Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Prior to their match against Chelsea on Sunday, the champions received a guard of honor. Julian Alvarez’s first-half goal gave the champs a 1-0 triumph. Following the game, Guardiola and his team celebrated with the Premier League trophy, with the manager now possessing more of Ferguson’s records.

Ferguson has successfully completed a perfect three-point game twice. First, part one of United’s treble, began with the league championship in 1998–1999; second, from 2006–07 to 2008–09.

Before Liverpool’s 2019–20 victory interrupted City’s streak, Guardiola had won two straight matches. This time, though, a team that defeated Chelsea made it 12 wins in a row and could not be stopped.

Guardiola is still well behind Ferguson’s competition record of 13 with his five league championships. With just two more victories in the FA Cup and Champions League finals left to play, he can finally match the Scot’s greatest accomplishment.

The Champions League is Guardiola’s top trophy, despite the fact that he just won his fifth league championship in the past six years. If City defeats Inter on June 10 in Istanbul, they will become the first team to ever win the competition.

To be regarded as one of the best teams, like United or Liverpool, you must win the Champions League, the manager told Sky Sports. “But it’s also unfair to say that the Premier League doesn’t matter if you don’t win it,”

It is important and makes sense, of course. Every day of the week has it. This club won five of the most recent six games, but six of the most recent 10, and seven of the most recent 12. It’s incredible.

Several of City’s players experienced the same things. The Premier League championship is Kalvin Phillips’ first, he said to BBC Radio 5 Live after making his league debut against Chelsea. “Some of the lads here have won five Premier League titles, but this is my first,” he said.

  1. “Pep has won so much throughout his career, and if he can guide us to this treble, he will be content and be remembered as the world’s best manager. I want to win it for him as well as for myself.
