Nigerian chef, Hilda Baci, hits 80-hour mark in record-breaking attempt

Hilda Effiong Bassey, better known by her stage name Hilda Baci, is a Nigerian chef and businesswoman who is close to shattering the record for the “longest cooking marathon by an individual” set by the Guinness Book of World Records.

With less than 8 hours left to break the previous world record, the chef reached the milestone of 80 hours.

On Thursday at precisely 4 o’clock in the afternoon, the restaurateur turned on her cooker to start the competition.

Lata Tondon, an Indian cook who achieved the feat in 2019, currently holds the Guinness World Record with her record of 87 hours and 45 minutes, which she hopes to surpass.

Several famous people are present for the event, which is being broadcast live on YouTube from Amore Gardens in Lekki, Lagos.

On Sunday, Baci reached the three-day mark as numerous attendees applauded.

According to the cook-a-thon’s Instagram account, @hildabacicookathon, GB Foods is the main sponsor. Arla Foods, BaigeWallet, Filmhouse, Jumbo, Uber, and Woodscope are some additional advertisers.

Both offline and online media have picked up on the Cookathon, which has attracted a star-studded crowd to cheer on the chef.

At the occasion were Nollywood actor Charles Okocha, actress Kate Henshaw, musician Tiwa Savage, media personality Enioluwa, and many more.


On Sunday, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu also went to the location to encourage Baci.

On Twitter, director Kevin Adetiba stated, “REALLY pulling for HILDA BACHI. Although I don’t know her personally, her passion, ambition, and tenacity really encourage and inspire me.

“Prayers and good energies are being sent to PUSH THROUGH. She is motivating those she doesn’t even know. HILDA, GO! You can do this.

Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, praised Baci for having “determination and focus.”

Baci has experience competing in cooking competitions; in fact, she took part in the inaugural Jollof Face-off Competition in 2021. By winning the contest and taking home the top prize of $5000, the gifted chef made Nigeria proud.
